23 people have lost their lives on Gauteng roads over the long weekend.

That’s according to Gauteng Traffic Police Spokesperson Sello Maremane who is urging motorists to exercise caution as many are still making their way back to the province.

Maremane says the bulk of the accidents can be attributed to road users flouting rules.

“Since Thursday afternoon to 3pm today, 23 people were killed as a result of road traffic crashes in our province. The major cause is vehicles overturning, in some instances pedestrians j-walking. All categories of road users should exercise care and we are saying road safety is the responsibility of everyone. This number is high because no person should lose their life as a result of a road traffic crash.”
