Organisers of South Africa’s leading culinary initiative dedicated to the fight against hunger have announced the launch of the fifth annual #67-thousand litres for the Mandela Day campaign.

The Chefs with Compassion initiative has invited chefs, cooks, corporates and individuals to collectively cook 67 000 litres of soup on the 18th of July. The aim is to honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy and to address food insecurity across the country. Chef Coo Pillay explains this year’s edition of the challenge.

“With one week to go we are all gearing up for this challenge and we want to achieve the target and supercede last year’s one where we produced over 100 000 litres of soup. Most importantly it is about the reach of that soup, especially now, where the temperatures have dropped.”
