77-year-old Mpumalanga woman allegedly raped in two-day ordeal

A 25-year-old man from Dikweteng Village in Dientjie, Mpumalanga, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 77-year-old woman. Police say the suspect allegedly broke into the victim’s house and assaulted the elderly woman for two days.

The victim is currently in hospital receiving medical treatment.

The suspect was out on bail for a similar incident in March in which he allegedly raped an 83-year-old woman who died in hospital.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Magonseni Nkosi, “The suspect is expected to appear before the Dientjie Periodical Court near Graskop, Mpumalanga, on charges of burglary, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and rape.”

“According to information at our disposal, the suspect broke into the victim’s house on Wednesday and stayed there up until Friday. On Friday, the granny managed to summon for assistance. Before the community members could come to her rescue, the suspect fled the scene. Police followed information and the suspect was arrested.”
