Suspects in ‘space cookies’ case remain behind bars

Three suspects arrested in connection with allegedly selling dagga-laced cookies to learners of the Pulamadibogo Primary school in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, will remain behind bars until their next bail application.

This after their bail application was postponed to the 20th of this month.  19-year-old Amukelani Nyulungu, 21-year-old Ofentse Maluleke and 29-year-old Katlego Matlala are facing attempted murder charges for allegedly selling the “space cookies” to about 90 primary school learners.

The children were hospitalised after experiencing nausea, stomach cramps and some vomiting. The trio made a brief appearance in the Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court where members of the community had come out in numbers to protest.

SANCO’S Velaphi Khoza has welcomed the postponement.

“We are very happy about the way the court has presided and the facts that have been raised by the state. It shows that the magistrate will not give those suspects bail. The prosecutor has mentioned that those people are a danger to society. And the people abused here were kids,” says Khoza.
