Eskom says the Tshwane and Ekurhuleni municipalities owe it a combined amount of R4.7 billion in electricity arrears.
The power utility says Tshwane alone owes it R3.2 billion and Ekurhuleni about R1.5 billion.
Eskom spokesperson Amanda Qithi says this further threatens the power utility’s financial sustainability.
“Despite all avenues that we have explored to recover what is due to Eskom, both municipalities have failed to fully honour their payments and to comply with their electricity supply agreements,” adds Qithi.
