McDonald’s South Africa has distanced itself from the actions of the burger giant in Israel.

This, after McDonald’s in Israel said it would provide soldiers in the country with free meals amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Earlier this week, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema had given the franchise until the end of the month to disassociate itself from this.

However, in a statement, McDonald’s South Africa said it was not affiliated with McDonald’s Israel.

McDonald’s South Africa has joined the US burger giant’s franchises in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Turkey disassociating themselves from the Israeli franchise.

In the statement, McDonald’s South Africa says its operations are independent of those of McDonald’s Israel.

The franchise says it does not engage in any political involvement and has the sole focus of delivering good food and service.
