Six of the Gold One miners who managed to come to the surface after spending three days underground at the company’s Springs operation have been rushed to health facilities for treatment.

It is not clear yet what they could be suffering from. But it’s suspected that some could be under severe shock, dehydration and hunger after being held hostage since the weekend.

According to the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), 107 miners have surfaced but there are some who need assistance as there are reports of injured miners still underground.

The video below is reporting more on the story:

Earlier, Gold One Mine CEO Jonathan Hericourt said they had mobilized resources to speed up the evacuation process and to ensure health facilities are on standby for those who might need medical attention.

He added that more security personnel and three medical helicopters have been deployed on-site to assist with the operation.
