Three lives lost in KZN Midlands flood tragedy

Three people died in two separate incidents while trying to cross flooded low-lying bridges as heavy rains hit three districts in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

Provincial Cooperative Governance spokesperson Sboniso Mngadi says there were children also injured in Willowfontein when their home collapsed.

“The severe weather that was experienced in different parts of the province caused devastation in three districts Umgungundlovu, Umzinyathi, and Harry Gwala. There are only three fatalities that have been confirmed while there are also children who suffered injuries in the area of Willowfontein under Umgungundlovu district in Dundee, under Umzinyathi District, a man died after his vehicle was washed away while attempting to cross the flooded bridge. In the Umzimkhulu area under Harry Gwala District, a vehicle was washed away in the Cabhani River with two occupants. The search and rescue teams responded swiftly to the incident, the vehicle has been recovered, and both occupants had sadly passed away.”
