The African National Congress (ANC) in Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo says it decided to end its coalition with the Democratic Alliance (DA) due to a lack of service delivery issues in the most vulnerable communities in the town.

The ANC, along with the FF Plus and ICOSA will support a motion of no confidence in current DA Mayor Chris Macpherson.

The coalition, which also included Suid-Kaap Staansaam, was formed during the last local government election.

ANC regional spokesperson Moyisi Magalela says, “There was a serious outcry in terms of service delivery where only selected few received services and the majority, which is poor and black, were neglected. It was our collective view that this government doesn’t care for the poor, they only care for the selected few. It was against this background that the ANC caucus took a decision to put a motion of no confidence to the mayor and the DA speaker.”
