ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa is the first country to condemn what he calls genocide in Gaza by Israel.

He says other countries around the world also followed in support of South Africa.

Pretoria dragged Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) seeking the intervention of the World Court to halt the bombardment in Gaza.

Ramaphosa says, “Palestinians are just being slaughtered and is collective punishment which is being meted out against ordinary Palestinians in the way that is happening in Gaza. We have never had a situation where children have died in their thousands and women. Unarmed civilians being slaughtered in a way that is happening in Gaza.”

Meanwhile, Ramaphosa says South Africa stands with the people of Palestine.

“So, we felt duty bound. Because we know what apartheid means. We know what oppression means. We felt we needed to side with the Palestinians. And to demonstrate our total opposition to genocidal acts.”
