Two women and five men died on the scene while another man died hours later in hospital.

The Premier’s spokesperson Sello Tatai says five men entered the tavern and a scuffle ensued when they refused to be searched.

Tatai says the establishment’s lights were switched off and shots were fired.

“Twelve other people were seriously injured and are receiving treatment in hospital. Of the deceased, four are South Africans and two are from Mozambique and Lesotho respectively.
