A police officer has died following a crash on the M7 in Durban. Advanced Life Support Paramedic spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson says it is believed that a truck crashed into several vehicles. Jamieson says three other people were treated for injuries.

“On arrival paramedics found total devastation as a truck had somehow lost control, whilst the emergency personnel were working to recover the truck. The truck collided into two-piece vehicles, two trucks and two civilian vehicles, before the truck left the road. A total of three people have been treated on scene for some injuries ranging from moderate to serious and were transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, a police official that was struck by the truck has passed away due to the severity on her injuries. SAPS currently in attendance and will be investigating further.”

Durban Metro Police spokesperson Boyzie Zungu is urging motorists to be cautious on the roads as wet weather conditions are expected for the rest of the day.

“M7 between Bellville bridge and N2 bridge both East and West bound is closed due to major accidents. We requesting motorists and other road users to avoid both bounds of M7 and use alternative roads.”
