Victims of train and scholar bus accident to be laid to rest today

The six learners who lost their lives in a crash involving a scholar transport bus and a goods train in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, will be laid to rest this morning.

The learners Sbusiso Mokonene, Katlego Majutla, Innocent Mabena, Nomfundo Sibanyoni, Snenhlanhla Sibanyoni and Dimpho Masina were travelling from school to home when the bus crashed with a goods train at a level crossing on the R104 road between Arnot and Wonderfontein in Middelburg last week.

Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu and government officials will be leading the funeral at Mafube Village in Middelburg Mpumalanga.

Preliminary investigations into the crash by the Railway Safety Regulator indicates that the bus driver did not adhere to the road signage at the level crossing.
