Officials and mourners pack venue for scholars’ funeral

The Sikhululiwe Community Hall in Mafube Village at Wonderfontein, Mpumalanga, where the funeral of the six learners is under way, is packed to capacity by mourners and officials from the Mpumalanga government.

Amongst the dignitaries is Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu and Deputy Minister of Basic Education Reginah Mhaule.

The learners were killed during a crash between a scholar transport bus and a goods train at a level crossing on the R104 between Arnot and Wonderfontein.

Five learners died on the spot and one died later in hospital.

The learners Sbusiso Mokonene, Katlego Majutla, Innocent Mabena, Nomfundo Sibanyoni, Snenhlanhla Sibanyoni and Dimpho Masina were travelling from school to home when they were killed.
