Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu says government will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that no unroadworthy vehicles will be allowed to transport learners to schools in the province.
He’s been delivering the keynote condolences message to families of six learners who died when a school bus collided with a train at a level crossing on the R104 between Arnot and Wonderfontein in Mpumalanga.
The Sikhululiwe Communityhall in Mafube Village at Wonderfontein, is packed to capacity by mourners and officials from the Mpumalanga government, attending the funeral service currently under way.
Five learners died on the spot and one died later in hospital.
Ndlovu has urged communities to report to authorities any transportation vehicles that are not fit to be on the roads.
“To all family members and friends, your loss is our loss, your pain and sorrow is ours. The province is indeed covered by a dark cloud, we are mourning the loss of our learners from Morelig Combined School. We are inviting our learners and communities to alert government of any suspicious, irregular behavior. We should conduct regular inspections to ensure that scholar transport vehicles are roadworthy. Once again, our deepest condolences to the relatives and friends of the departed.”
