Ministers in the Government of National Unity (GNU) will only sign performance agreements once Parliament has approved the Medium-Term Development Plan.

This is according to President Cyril Ramaphosa in a written reply to a Parliamentary question from Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of Parliament, Mzwanele Manyi.

The plan is aimed at setting out the priorities of the GNU into the details and interventions that government will implement over the next five years.

Manyi asked the President whether he has resolved to set a date on when the members of the national executive are going to sign the envisaged performance agreements.

The EFF MP says the delay in signing performance agreements could create concerns regarding the accountability and efficiency of the seventh administration.

The President said the exercise of accountability and the expectations in the performance of ministers is entrenched in the Constitution and not dependent on the conclusion of performance agreements.
