Two children have been severely burnt following a fire that broke last night in one of the apartments at Central Park Residential at Kempton Park – East Rand of Gauteng.

According to reports, the parents had temporarily left the premises to purchase food, and upon their return, they found the apartment engulfed in flames.

A witness who is a tenant, says that the fire is believed to have been caused by a faulty electric plug, which the occupants had previously reported to the building management.

The witness further states that the two children, who were severely injured in the fire, have been rushed to hospital and are currently in a critical condition.

“We had to rush the kids to hospital for emergency care, because we called the ambulance and the firefighters, but they took time. So, we didn’t have any choice because we see that the kids are suffering. So, we had to take the kids in their seats, we just used their jackets to cover them and took them to the hospital. When we got there, we got emergency help. The other child was transported to Tembisa hospital with oxygen all over his mouth.”
