The Hawks have seized counterfeit goods worth more than R30-million during an intelligence-led operation in Kerk Street, Johannesburg today.
The successful sting operation resulted in the confiscation of high-volume counterfeit products, marking a significant blow to illicit trade in the city.
Warrant Officer Wendy Nkabi says no arrests have been made yet, however investigations are ongoing.
“The DPCI Serious Commercial Crime Investigation received information which was operationalised and with the assistance of SAPS National Counterfeit, Contraband and Illicit Goods Policing, Border Police Public Order Policing Gauteng, Gauteng Saturation Unit, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, and brand holders pounced on several warehouses on Kerk Street where an assortment of branded sneakers, shorts and t-shirts were kept. The brands confiscated include Timberland, Adidas, Reebok, Lacoste and Nike.”
