Time is running out for the world in meeting the sustainable development goals.

United Nations Resident Coordinator in South Africa Nelson Muffuh says UN member states must put concerted efforts in tackling poverty, combating climate change and creating decent jobs.

He was speaking at the launch of the private sector voluntary report on the Sustainable Development Goals.

“We are certainly not on track, only 17% of the targets, 169 them are being met about another 17% are being marginally met and there’s regression in about 17% more of the targets. So, a course correction is needed. We need to do a lot more. And this whole of society necessity of collaborating now comes to the fall. That’s why we have the government, we have the private sector and civil society as well the UN coming together for a call to action to say we need a paradigm shift. We need to do things differently quicker and better to achieve the outcomes on food, education, energy, governance on localising the SDGs so that people can act on that.”
