Tourism sector hopes for boost in Budget Speech

The tourism and hospitality sector is calling on government to allocate a portion of its budget towards addressing significant challenges within the industry.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will deliver his budget speech tomorrow, which will lay out government’s spending priorities, revenue collection measures and updated economic forecasts for the coming year.

Alan Campbell, director at ANEW Hotels & Resorts, says they are hopeful that government will take a proactive approach in recognising the value the sector adds to the country’s GDP.

” We are expecting some harsh realities but we are very hopeful, where government taking a proactive approach to tourism and recognising its potential value as a mechanism to grow our economy and provide employment. So, we want to see big numbers in terms of tackling infrastructure development, roads, electricity, airports, we really want to open up the country to international visitors.”
