Schooling and economic activities are still being affected in several villages outside Louis Trichardt in Limpopo amid a service delivery protest.

Residents are demanding water supply. The Vhembe District Municipality says it has appointed a service provider to help address the situation.

Maria Mukhethwa, who runs an old age day care centre, says some elderly people have fallen sick after drinking water from the local river.

“The municipality is not doing anything to resolve our plight. The PR councillor came and witnessed firsthand the troubles that we go through providing for the elderly and disabled. We do not have proper infrastructure, toilets and water. We buy water that we do not even know if it’s clean to a point where some of the elders suffered from diarrhea. We want the municipality to expedite service delivery in our communities.”
