South African 400 metre runner, Collen Mahlalela, has given Team South Africa hope of a fifth medal at the Paralympic Games in Paris.
The 2024 world championship silver medallist ran a personal best time of 48.65 seconds in his T-47 heat at Stade France.
Mahlalela finished second in his heat and was third fastest overall for Saturday evening’s final.
Meanwhile, visually impaired judoka, Ndyebo Lamani, was knocked out in the round of 16 in the J-One, 73 kilogram division.
The 32-year-old from Gqeberha was beaten by Argentine Eduardo Gauto who pulled off an Ippon deep into the golden score period.
Collen Mahlalelea has secured his spot in the next round after finishing 2nd in the Men’s 200m T47 Heat 1, with a time of 48.65.
