ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the late Pravin Gordhan will be remembered for standing against those who sought to undermine the party.

He was speaking at his commemoration organised by the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation in Johannesburg earlier today.

The commemoration was attended by party veterans Sophie Williams De Bruyn, Reverend Frank Chikane and Veterans League President Dr Snuki Zikalala among others.

Mbalula said Gordhan fought state capture in all its forms.

“Comrade PG stood as bulwark against the forces that sought to undermine our movement. Steal from the poor and undermine the capacity of the state to improve the lives of our people, state capture represented a painful chapter in our history driven by vicious thieves cloaked in the colours of our movement. Comrade PG stood for the truth and fought state capture in all its manifestations.”

Meanwhile, during Gordhan’s funeral on Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the country has lost an outstanding leader.

Ramaphosa delivered the Eulogy at the Special official category 2 funeral in Durban.

The President described Gordhan as a humble servant of the people, who always knew what the cost of activism was.
