A child was killed in a fire that broke out in a residential building on Voortrekker Road in Parow, Cape Town, Monday night.

According to Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service, emergency services were called to the scene where they discovered the child’s body 10 minutes after arrival.

Carelse states, “The first arriving officer immediately assessed the situation and called for additional resources. There are six pumps and four water tankers on the scene from various fire stations. Firefighters discovered the body of a minor about 10 minutes later.
