A Vietnamese national to appear in court for alleged illegal trade in wildlife

A Vietnamese national will appear in the Bela Bela Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo this coming Friday (20 August) for the alleged illegal trade in wildlife.

Spokesperson for the Department of Forestry and Environment Albi Modise says the suspect was arrested in possession of lion teeth and claws during a raid on his property in Bela Bela.

Modise says the arrest came after a four-month investigation.

“The joint investigation team seized 4.19 kg of lion teeth, 680 of lion claws and more than 60 g of processed animal products believed to be lion gelatine and illegal firearm was also confiscated.”
