The Western Cape Government says the path has been cleared for additional funding from national government after the province was declared a disaster area. The province says it has received notification from the National Disaster Risk Management Centre for a provincial disaster classification.

Heavy rains in the Western Cape have caused damage to infrastructure including roads and railway lines.

Buildings have also suffered damage.

Western Cape Local Government Minister, Anton Bredell, says the classification will help the provincial administration to coordinate support from different spheres of government.
