Born in Cape Town in 1988, AKA was introduced to the music industry as one of the members of Entity – a group he had formed with two of his friends in 2002.

Despite a Kora Award nomination, the trio went their separate ways in 2006. As a young sound engineering student, AKA founded the Ivy League Production Company alongside Buks and Kamza.

Ivy League was responsible for creating hit songs for the likes of Khuli Chana, JR and the late Prokid.

While making magic behind the scenes, it was behind the mic were he really came alive. He went on to release solo tracks which include “I Do” and “Mistakes”.

However, it was upon releasing his debut album, Alter Ego, that grabbed the public’s attention, with “Victory Lap” topping the charts.

From producing to collaborations and releasing a number of albums throughout the years, the hip hop artist came alive on stage, capturing the hearts of South Africans and the international public.

However, instead of taking to the stage he was booked to perform at, his microphone was silenced last Friday after he was shot and killed alongside former manager Tibz.

These brutal murders, sending shockwaves throughout the country.

AKA has done his final victory lap, the microphone has dropped and he has taken his last bow. Friends, family, industry colleagues and fans, are to gather at the Sandton Convention Centre for his memorial service. The late rapper will granted a provincial state funeral and laid to rest at a private burial this Saturday.
