Water related challenges in the town of Alice in the Eastern Cape have received a major intervention. This follows the official launch of a R130 million Alice Water Treatment and University of Fort Hare Wastewater Treatment Expansion Projection.

The aim is to accommodate the growing population of the university town. It comes after numerous complaints of water scarcity, that have at times led to protests.

The Minister of Higher Education, Dr Nobuhle Nkabane says this will go a long way in addressing the issue of water and sanitation in the university town.

“It is going to benefit 44 000 people of Alice. We have done this project in partnership because it was their vision and we are very happy with the standard of infrastructure that we have seen here today.”
