Alleged cycad poacher to appear in court

A suspected cycad poacher is expected to appear in the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo soon.

He was arrested at the Kranskop toll plaza outside Modimolle yesterday for allegedly smuggling the protected plant species.

Police say the suspected smuggler did not have a permit for the 112 illegal cycads found in the vehicle he was travelling in.

Provincial police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says they suspect that the plants were destined for a foreign country.
