Allies of Magashule excluded from ANC candidate list

Political analyst Professor Sethulego Matebesi says he is not surprised by names of a few people that have made a comeback on the candidate list of the African National Congress (ANC) ahead of the elections in less than 90 days from now.

Former Provincial Spokesperson of the ANC Oupa Khoabane and former MEC for Finance Elzabe Rockman have been included.

The candidate list has seen the exclusion of allies of the former premier Ace Magashule, namely, Vusi Tshabalala, Sam Mashinini, William Bulwane and others.

Matebesi says, “There are a few people that don’t surprise me on that list, like for instance Oupa Khoabane, who has been the spokesperson of the African National Congress. He knows the internal dynamics of the ANC in the province.”

“But also very surprising, people who are currently serving in the provincial legislature like Sam Mashinini, not making it [to the list]. But that can also be indicative of the leadership change within the province,” adds Matebesi.
