The African National Congress (ANC) Vhembe region says party members in the area want Limpopo Premier, Stanley Mathabatha to retain his position as ANC Chairperson.

The region held its Special Regional Council at the weekend to consider a road map and guidelines towards the party’s provincial conference.

A statement released by the region after the regional council says that they want Mathabatha to serve a third term of office.

Vhembe’s special regional council resolved that they want a generational mix in the composition of the provincial leadership.

Vhembe says they also want continuity, and Mathabatha can achieve that as the chairperson.

If Mathabatha emerges as a chairperson, it will be the first time in the history of the party in the province that a chairperson serves for more than two terms.

Vhembe also want to put forward Florence Radzilani as the Deputy Chairperson, and Danny  Msiza as Secretary.
