Andy Birkett wins Stage 2 of 2023 Dusi Canoe Marathon

Andy Birkett has won Stage 2 of the 2023 Dusi Canoe Marathon to extend his lead in the race.

His combined time after the second tough 42KM stage from Dusi Bridge to Inanda Dam is 4.51.53 seconds.

Birkett is ahead of Msawenkosi Mtolo in second and Dave Evans in third place.

Meanwhile, Christie Mackenzie has continued her dominant performance in the women’s race of the marathon.

She has won Stage 2 from Dusi Bridge to Inanda Dam and is now opened up a massive lead of more than 20 minutes between her and second-placed Bridgitte Hartley.

“I had a clean day today and that’s all I wanted. It was pretty scary out there. I’ve never seen the Dusi well. I’ve never paddled on the Dusi when it was this big.”

She has thanked the organisers, saying “it was a good call from the organisers to make us portage”.
