The bail application of 27 men arrested in connection with alleged passport fraud has been postponed to Tuesday in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court to allow the investigating officer to make his presentation to the court.

The group is believed to be part of a syndicate that was allegedly working with home affairs officials to fraudulently issue South African passports to foreign nationals at a cost of R40 000 each.

One of the people who has been in attendance is ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba. Addressing his members outside court, Mashaba says the rot in home affairs starts from the top.

“The problem is not with these foreigners. We have got no government. We have seen senior ministers in government who are responsible for creating this nonsense. You might find that a senior politician is involved.”

“We saw when Malusi Gigaba was the minister of home affairs, [he] issued the Guptas with South African passports. We have not forgotten about the current speaker of parliament as the minister of defence was involved in human trafficking using state resources,” adds Mashaba.
