The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has ordered Standard Bank to remove expelled MK Party member, Jabulani Khumalo, as a signatory on the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) political party’s bank account.

A judgment, dated 17 September 2024 reveals that the MK Party hauled Khumalo to court seeking his removal from the bank account after he contended that he was entitled to remain as an authorised signatory, citing the pending appeal in the party’s leadership battle currently sitting in the courts.

The High Court in its judgment found that the appeal has no bearing on the termination by the MK Party of Khumalo’s mandate to act as an authorised signatory on behalf of the party.

The court in its analysis concluded that the MK Party has shown that Khumalo has no legal entitlement to remain a signatory on their bank account.

As a result, the relief sought by the MK Party was granted and Khumalo was handed a punitive costs order.
