Local artists who turned out to celebrate Grammy award winning artist, Zakes Bantwini on his arrival back home at the King Shaka International Airport, north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, say it is a huge recognition for the country’s music industry.

Bantwini shared with Wouter Kellerman and Nomcebo Zikode the Grammy Award in the best global music performance category for their hit song, Bayethe.

Mbusi ‘DJ Sox’ Sokhela was among those who welcomed Bantwini.

Sokhela says, “Look we are so excited; a bit of good news, you know. We have been having a lot of bad news lately. A bit of good news! It’s a great win for South Africa; it’s a big win for KZN; it’s a big win for Durban. We have been getting Grammys coming to our city.”

“We are so excited today. We are here for Zakes. As you can see the mood, as CCIFSA, we are very proud. I think it is important to send a message that wherever you are in South Africa, just do music in your corner; be it you are in Durban, Joburg, PE, Cape Town. Gone are the days where everybody had to go to Joburg. Music is coming from all over the country.”
