A Barkly West man in the Northern Cape has started serving his 15-year jail term after using a sharp object to stab his friend to death in May last year.

Bongizile Dlongwane, 34 years old, was sentenced in the Barkly West Regional Court after it found him guilty of murder.

The court had heard that Dlongwane attacked his friend when he found him sitting with other friends.

Provincial police spokesperson Merapelo Pilane elaborates.

“The court heard during the trial that, on Saturday 5 May 2023, the victim was sitting at a friend’s residence in Haak En Steek in Barkly West, when the accused joined them and, without any provocation, stabbed the victim with a sharp object on the upper body and ran away from the scene. The local emergency medical services personnel were called to the scene and declared the 24-year-old victim deceased,” police spokesperson.”
