The Buffalo City Metro (BCM) residents in the Eastern Cape have been cautioned to be on high alert following reports of strong damaging winds.

Metro authorities say the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued yellow level warnings for damaging winds and waves which can be expected from midnight until tomorrow.

BCM Spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya says the winds will result in localised damage to formal and informal settlements as well as difficult driving and sea conditions.

“The Metro Emergency Response Systems include the activation of key stakeholders that are part of the disaster management operations center to be on standby and ready when called upon. The winds will most likely hit our shores from tomorrow onwards. We will assess the situation as it progresses but for now it is still ideal bathing weather. Communities are advised to follow warnings issued by the SAWS and the Metro, particularly those that utilise deep seas for commercial and recreational purposes.”
