Biden lauded by delegates, rallies for Harris in Chicago

President Joe Biden received an over four minutes standing ovation as he arrived to address the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

He was lauded by the thousands of delegates gathered inside the United Centre Basketball arena, his speech interrupted by constant chants of “Thank you Joe” or “We love Joe”.

Biden’s exit from the race and re-energised the party behind his Vice President Kamala Harris.

This is how Biden rallied the crowd for the new Democratic Presidential Nominee.

Biden: Are you ready to vote for freedom?

Crowd answered: Yes!

Biden: Are you ready to vote for Democracy and for America?

Crowd answered: Yes!

Biden: Let me ask you, are you ready to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as President and Vice President of the United States?

‘Preserve US’s democracy’

Biden reiterated his long-standing message against the party’s Republican rivals, warning that the MAGA agenda of former President Donald Trump was a fight to preserve the country’s democracy and battle for the soul of America.

Biden suggested that his win in 2020 was only the start as he handed the baton to Harris.

“Democracy has prevailed. Democracy has delivered. And now Democracy must be preserved. You’ve heard me say this before, we’re facing an inflection point, one of those rare moments in history because the decisions we make now will determine the fate of our nation and the world for decades to come. That’s not hyperbole, I mean it literally, we’re in a battle for the very soul in America.”
