Body of missing hiker found on Otter Trail in Tsitsikamma

The body of a missing hiker has been recovered on the Otter Trail in the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park.

SANParks spokesperson JP Louw says the hiker was reported missing by his hiking group when he failed to arrive at an overnight hut.

Louw says the family of the deceased has been notified.

“SANParks Rangers, joined by National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), began a search yesterday around 15:43 despite unfavorable weather conditions, large swells and swollen rivers. By nightfall, there was no sign of the missing man. The search resumed at first light today with the support of SAPS and Police Search and Rescue teams. Unfortunately, the hiker was found deceased.”

The hiker was reported missing by his hiking group after he went ahead during their hike and was last seen at approximately 13:00 on the second last day of the trail. He did not arrive at the last overnight hut.
