Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink says he is confident that it’s not the end of the road for him as Mayor. Brink was briefing the media in Pretoria, ahead of the motion of no confidence against him that is expected to take place next week Thursday.

The motion was submitted by the African National Congress (ANC) after a fallout over several grievances which include poor service delivery and the City’s ailing finances.

The ANC is yet to announce its final decision on Brink’s future and said it is waiting on further instructions from National ANC leaders on the way forward.

A few days before facing a fierce political battle, Tshwane Mayor took a swipe at ActionSA. Accusing the party of plunging the municipality into a political crisis by dumping the Democratic Alliance-led Tshwane multi-party coalition. Following ActionSA’s exit, the coalition no longer has a majority in council to protect Brink.

“ActionSA has induced a political crisis in Tshwane,” says Brink.

“We will not vote for Brink,” says ActionSA Gauteng leader Funzi Ngobeni.

Brink also denies claims that ActionSA divorced the coalition after the DA allegedly started talking with the ANC about a new coalition in Tshwane that would look similar to the GNU.

In a bid to defend his position, the Mayor, who has been leading Tshwane since last year March, said it’s important to focus on the gains made in Tshwane to stabilise the municipal finances and improve service delivery and honour the promise of clean water in Hammanskraal, which is expected to happen next month.

Brink confirms that the DA is in talks with the ANC to find a way forward. He further adds that he had not received resignation letters from ActionSA leaders who are on the Mayoral committee, like Deputy Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya.

With just a few days to go before the Tshwane council puts the ANC’s motion to vote Brink is adamant that he is here to stay. This, as the ANC is likely going to save him but if brink is successfully toppled, many are wondering whether he will he stay on as an ordinary DA Tshwane councillor.
