The Eastern Cape Chamber of Business says it still has not seen the plan that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu presented in Parliament about combating crime in the province.

The Chamber’s Secretary-General Dr. Andile Nontso was reacting to the latest developments in the province where three suspected extortionists were killed in a shootout with police on Wednesday.

Nontso says businesses still feel unsafe to operate in Mthatha.

He says, “To trade, you need to be protected. Some people lose potential investors who refuse to invest money in an area that is high risk in terms of security. We don’t want to even get into issues of police. It’s the police, through their intelligence who are able to identify who does this or that because our people fear to come forward and say it’s so and so.”
