Animal welfare organisations in Cape Town say they are being inundated with calls to rescue animals trapped in waterlogged situations or strays brought in.
This as wet, cold and windy conditions continue to batter the province.
The Cape of Good Hope SPCA is asking for communities to open their hearts and homes and to adopt.
Animal Inspector Rudolph Philander says it has been a busy rainy week for the rescue teams.
“It’s been some of our worst weather and we’ve seen some of the animals displaced, farm animals, wild animals especially dogs and cats. We’ve had animals stuck in rivers, stuck in canals and in vlei areas. Our inspectors are working around the clock, 24/7, to make sure that these animals are safe. There have been people calling us asking if they can donate or adopt animals because they want to save as many animals as possible and as more space open there’s more space for more vulnerable animals to come in.”
