Legal analyst Clarisa Vermaak says the case of the 10 former uMkhonto weSizwe party MPs, who are challenging their dismissal from Parliament, could be a logistical nightmare for Parliament, current MK Party MPs and the party.

She says if the application is upheld and the fired MPs are reinstated, legal costs will be incurred and the members who are already MPs, would have to vacate their positions.

The 10 Members of Parliament have approached the Western Cape High Court for an urgent interdict to stop the party from replacing them.

The court has been told that the party’s leader Jacob Zuma behaved in an autocratic manner when he summarily dismissed them last month.

The court also heard that Zuma removed the disgruntled MPs because they did not possess the right skills to serve as Parliamentarians.

The 10 are part of a larger group of 18, who were expelled by the party last month, and consequently lost their Parliamentary seats.
