Chambers of business in many parts of the country have expressed concern about the continued load shedding.

Each stage of Eskom’s load shedding costs the country around a billion rand per day – according to some estimates.

Load shedding downgraded from Stage 4 to Stage 2:

In the Northern Cape, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry says government needs to start looking at measures to support businesses affected by load shedding.

CEO of the Chamber, Sharon Steyn says a lot of businesses are facing closure due to endless load shedding.

She says Eskom and government urgently need to help businesses stay in operation.

“The municipalities may not be paying Eskom but businesses are paying municipalities or the businesses are paying Eskom directly. My problem is where does one hand help the other here. Somewhere we have to look at it and see how we can support each other.”

“We try and support Eskom with its dire straits and issues they have but who is supporting businesses with their issues, nobody. Businesses get told lockdown, lights going off. So, when we have no salaries or jobs gets lost, how do you explain to your staff,” explains Steyn.
