Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth, and Persons Living with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga has pledged support for the orphans of two women who were shot and killed at a farm in Limpopo.

Chikunga attended the bail hearing of the three accused, Zacharia Olivier, Rudolph de Wet, and William Musora, at the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court.

The accused shot and killed Maria Makgato and Kudzai Ndlovu, a Zimbabwean national, before dumping their bodies in a pigsty at a farm in Overwacht, outside Polokwane.

Their bail application was transferred to the Polokwane regional court and will be heard on the 2nd of October.

The accused will remain in custody.

Chikunga has also condemned the killing.

“I am happy that the MEC for Agriculture is here having visited the home and gave report she had actually offered to appoint a family member so that there is an income for the family but even the provincial government has offered to assist these children with bursaries to assist the children when they complete matric”, says Chikunga.

Moreover, one of the three accused, De Wet, has told the court that he was assaulted by police while in custody.

They are charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Police District Commissioner Lesiba Mashilo says De Wet has not opened a case.

“If there is any allegations and allegations is subject to investigations and if the accused is being alleged to have been assaulted, he has all the right to approach the police and open a case and it will be investigated by the relevant body. You know if there is any allegations of assault by police, IPID has to come in and investigate.”
