Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says it is important to collaborate with China to improve the way electricity is produced in South Africa.

This comes ahead of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation Summit, where climate and energy will be among the topics of discussion.

Ramokgopa has also emphasised the importance of encouraging young engineers to stay up to date with the development of energy technology.

He spoke to the SABC during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s state visit to China.

“We must continue to do everything to bring the generation of electricity in the country and ensure that we transition. China has done tremendously well in the area of nuclear, in the area of solar and wind. So, it’s important that we find those collaborations and more significantly to be able to send some of our young engineers to come and learn of the new technologies so that we have our own capacities to drive our own agenda,” says Ramokgopa.
