The City of Johannesburg will ensure that the legacy of slain EFF councilor, Moshe Mphahlele lives on. City Speaker, Margaret Arnolds delivered the eulogy on behalf of Johannesburg mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda at Mphahlele’s funeral service at the Baroka Stadium outside Lebowakgomo in Limpopo.

Mphahlele was shot and killed last Sunday in Alexandra during the removal of dwellers from COVID-19 temporary accommodation containers.

Arnolds says the municipality will carry Mphahlele’s vision forward.

“We pledge to carry forward his vision, his values, and his unwavering dedication to serve and I believe councilors of the City of Johannesburg will definitely be serving the way he did. As we come together to celebrate his life, let us remember all the lessons. Let us remember his kindness, his resilience, and his unyielding belief in the power of community. Let us ensure that his legacy lives on through our actions, our decisions, and our commitment to all the people of the City of Johannesburg.”
