The revelation by Home Affairs of possible fraud and identity theft by the mother of former Miss SA finalist, Chidimma Adetshina’s has raised grave concerns about the issue of identity theft in the country.

The department indicated that preliminary investigations into her citizenship revealed that her mother might have committed fraud and identity theft.

Meanwhile, identity theft victim, Lulama Ntentesa says her life was stalled for over two years as she was taken from pillar to post to prove who she was.

“When I downloaded the credit report from the Credit Bureaus, I discovered a whole lot of accounts that I had not opened or applied for. What it does is that it disrupts your life. You have to now prove that you are you, and that you didn’t do this crime of getting credits. And so, that taints your name. Further to that, for my own career, I’ve progressed career-wise but that affects your career if you wanna be in management roles because you are a bad payer, you have financial problems that you are not even aware of,” says Ntentesa.
