Concerns over looming basic education budget cuts

The Budget Justice Coalition has expressed concerned over the impending budget cuts to basic education.

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube revealed on Wednesday that the country’s provincial education departments will struggle to fund teacher posts, scholar transport programmes, and school nutrition due to budget constraints.

Budget Justice Coalition researcher, Matshidiso Lencoasa says this may disproportionately affect vulnerable populations and exacerbate inequalities.

Lencoasa reveals that the video of impending budget cuts impending near basic education is disappointing, adding that basic education portfolio has been stained by budget cuts over previous years.
