Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa) has reminded President Cyril Ramaphosa not to renege on his commitment to include traditional leaders in his cabinet.

Ramaphosa is set to appoint his cabinet in a government of national unity following last month’s general elections.

Contralesa President Kgosi Larmeck Mokoena says the inclusion of traditional leaders in this country’s 7th administration will help the government deal with challenges facing traditional leaders and people in rural areas.

Mokoena says, “Contralesa congratulates President Cyril Ramaphosa for being re-elected as the president of this country. Our expectations is that the president must put up strong team of those ministers, ministers who are dedicated, who are going to put people first, ministers who are not fingered by the Zondo commission.”

“ We want to remind the President of the commitment that he made when we met him at Mahlambhandlovu in 2019 where he said traditional affairs will be a stand-alone department. Contralesa want to urge the presidency to seriously look at this matter and as Contralesa we are reserving our comments on the government of national unity,” he adds.
